Terms
Terms of Service
Effective May 16, 2026
Welcome to WritingProcess.app. These terms govern your use of the WritingProcess.app platform, websites, and related services. They are written for the people who actually have to read them — teachers, school administrators, and the legal teams who review software on their behalf.
1. Who can use the service
WritingProcess.app is provided to K-12 schools and districts for use in classroom writing instruction. Teachers and administrators may sign up directly. Student accounts are provisioned only by an authorized teacher or administrator within an authorized school.
If you are agreeing to these terms on behalf of a school or district, you confirm that you have authority to do so. If you don't have that authority, you may not use the service in that capacity.
2. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for any activity that takes place under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect any unauthorized use: hello@writingprocess.app.
Schools are responsible for ensuring that students provisioned in their accounts use the platform appropriately, in accordance with the school's own student-conduct policies.
3. What you can do with the service
You may use WritingProcess.app to:
- Assign, collect, scan, transcribe, review, score, and respond to student writing.
- Configure assignment-level settings — student access, time-boxed writing windows, secure mode, AI feedback options, and export.
- Train private, teacher-specific AI feedback that learns from your own grading and commenting.
- Export student work to other systems when export is enabled.
4. What you cannot do with the service
You agree not to:
- Use the service to submit content that is unlawful, harassing, or that infringes anyone else's rights.
- Attempt to break, probe, or interfere with the security of the service.
- Use the service to develop a competing product, or scrape our platform to extract content in bulk.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the service, except where applicable law expressly permits.
- Share student writing collected through the service with third parties for purposes unrelated to the educational interests of that student's class.
5. Ownership of student writing
Student writing belongs to the student. The school controls the educational record. WritingProcess.app claims no ownership of any writing submitted by students, and we will not use student writing to train AI models that serve anyone other than the student's own teacher and classroom.
You grant us a limited license to host, transmit, transcribe, and process student writing solely as needed to operate the service for your school. This license ends when your relationship with us ends.
6. Teacher-trained AI feedback
When a teacher uses the platform, the system can build a private feedback model trained on that teacher's own comments, rubric usage, and scoring patterns for a specific class. This trained feedback layer is owned by the school and is available only to the teacher who trained it.
Teacher-trained models are not shared across schools, sold to third parties, or used to improve any general-purpose AI model outside of WritingProcess.app.
7. Subscription, billing, and renewal
Paid plans are billed by classroom, school, or district based on the agreement we have with you. Unless your written agreement says otherwise, subscriptions renew annually, and we will email the billing contact at least thirty days before each renewal.
Quote-based pricing for schools and districts is available through hello@writingprocess.app.
8. Ending the service
You may end your use of WritingProcess.app at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, that we reasonably believe pose a security risk, or that the school of record has asked us to disable.
When a school's use of the service ends, we will return or securely destroy student data within thirty days, as directed by the school.
9. Service availability and changes
We work to keep WritingProcess.app available and performant, but we do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, change, or remove features from time to time. When we make changes that meaningfully affect how schools use the platform, we will give reasonable advance notice.
10. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, WritingProcess.app will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages. Our aggregate liability under these terms will not exceed the amount you paid us for the service during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitations in this section. Where that is the case, the limitations apply only to the extent permitted by local law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WritingProcess.app and its team against any claims arising from your misuse of the service or your violation of these terms, except to the extent the claim arises from our own negligence or misconduct.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes that cannot be resolved through good-faith negotiation will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
14. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we will post a notice on this page and email administrators on record. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
